The ProLabs line of Green Transceivers utilises new technologies which result in 30% less power consumed than a typical transceiver. All the while offering the same performance. The technology used is Silicon Optical Bench, SiOB, which relies on free-space optical interconnect technology eliminating the need for the optical lens. This results in maximum power consumption of 2.5W and typical of 2.0W in a QSFP28-100G-SR4, which is over 30% less than the common maximum consumption of equivalent traditional transceivers of 3.5W. The initial release will be the QSFP28-100G-SR4 package.
Benefits
The QSFP28 package transceiver has become the standard 100G transceiver being used today. As bandwidth needs drive 100G from the core of the network to the Top-of-Rack (TOR) , thousands of 100G transceivers will be utilised in large Data Centres making the power consumed (cost per kwh) and resulting heat dissipation (less load on cooling systems) of the transceiver significant. ProLabs’ Green Transceivers require 30% less power to operate. In addition, these efficiencies enable a broader operating temperature range up to +85C.
